Claude Plans and Pricing

Claude has a Free plan and three individual paid plans, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $100 and Ultra at $200, plus Team seats from $20, Enterprise seats at $20 plus usage, and an Education plan priced on request (as of Nov 6, 2026).

Claude costs nothing on the Free plan, $20 a month for Pro ($17 a month billed annually), $100 a month for Max and $200 a month for Ultra, as of Nov 6, 2026. Businesses buy Team seats at $20 or $100 a seat a month billed annually ($25 or $125 monthly), or Enterprise at $20 a seat a month billed annually plus usage at API rates. Universities get an Education plan with no public price. Every plan reaches the same apps (claude.ai, the desktop app and the mobile apps); what changes is how much you can use, which models you get, and whether Claude Code is included. The developer API is billed separately; see Claude API Pricing.

The Free plan already includes chat on the web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation and code execution, memory, connectors, Artifacts, Skills, voice mode, incognito chats and the beta Claude Design, Claude Slides and Claude Docs (pricing table). The paid plans add Claude Code, Research, Claude in Chrome, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude Science, the Opus models, scheduled tasks and unlimited Projects.

Free

The Free plan is $0 with "limited usage every 5 hours and every week" and gives Claude Sonnet and Claude Haiku but not Opus or Fable. Anthropic's own pricing FAQ says Free "covers everyday questions" (Plans & pricing).

Pro

Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month on an annual plan billed $200 up front. (Twelve months at $17 is $204; the page states $200, so the annual bill is the figure to trust.) Anthropic's FAQ says Pro gives "at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free". Pro is the cheapest plan with Claude Code, Opus and Research, and the only individual plan with annual billing. Fable runs on Pro only through paid usage credits from the first message (Claude Fable models on your plan).

Max

Claude Max is $100 a month, monthly only, with five times Pro's usage every five hours and every week, Fable included up to half of the weekly limit, priority access at busy times and $100 a month in API credits for the developer platform. Until about Oct 30, 2026 "Max" also named a $200 tier with 20x Pro's usage; that tier is now Ultra (Anthropic editor's note).

Ultra

Claude Ultra is $200 a month. It removes the five-hour limit for accounts Anthropic has verified, allows 10x Pro's usage a week, and includes $200 a month in API credits. Existing Max 20x subscribers moved to Ultra with no price change (What is the Ultra plan?). The choice between the three paid tiers is on Claude Pro vs Max.

Team

Team is for 2 to 150 people. A Standard seat is $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly and, per the help center, gives 1.25x Pro's usage per session; a Premium seat is $100 annually or $125 monthly with 6.25x Pro's per-session usage and Fable up to half the weekly limit. Seat types can be mixed. Team adds central billing, SSO, admin controls, Claude Tag in Slack, enterprise search, project sharing and up to $500 a month in pooled API credits, and Anthropic does not train on Team content by default.

Enterprise

Enterprise costs US$20 per seat per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum, and "usage cost scales with model and task". The seat fee "only covers access to the platform" and "there are no per-seat usage limits and no included token allowance": every chat, Claude Code session and Cowork task is billed at standard API rates (What is the Enterprise plan?). It adds SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting, a HIPAA-ready option and the beta Claude Security. It can be bought self-serve or through sales; the help center gives sales-assisted plans a 50-seat minimum, which the pricing page does not mention.

Education, nonprofits and government

Claude for Education is a university-wide plan with no published price (Claude for higher education). Verified US K-12 teachers who sign up by June 30, 2027 get a year free. Nonprofits verified through Goodstack pay $8 a user a month for Team, or $3 in low- and middle-income countries. Scientists at academic and nonprofit institutions can get a Team plan with Standard seats at $0 and Premium seats at $15 a month for 12 months. Claude for Government is sold as prepaid usage with no seat fee (Claude for government).

Is there a discount or free trial?

Anthropic says it does not offer "standard discounted pricing for individual plans", that occasional promotions go mostly to people trying a paid plan for the first time, and that Support "cannot issue one-off discounts or coupons". The only standing saving is Pro's annual price. No free trial is described on the pricing page or the plan articles as of Nov 6, 2026, although one help article mentions that "free trials" were excluded from a promotion (Fable 5 one-time credits). Gift subscriptions are currently unavailable to buy.

Extra usage and API credits

Two kinds of credit are easy to confuse. Usage credits let Pro, Max and Ultra keep working after a limit, billed at standard API rates, and are bought in Settings > Usage (Manage usage credits); prepaid bundles save up to 30% ($1,000 of usage for $700). Monthly API credits on Max, Ultra and Team are for the developer platform only: they cover the Claude API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK with an API key, not interactive Claude Code or extra chat usage, and they expire each billing cycle (Monthly API credits). See Claude Usage Limits.

How to upgrade, switch or cancel

  1. On the web, open Settings > Billing and choose "Upgrade plan" (How do I sign up for the Pro plan?).
  2. On iOS or Android, tap your initials, then "Upgrade to Pro", and pay through the App Store or Google Play.
  3. An upgrade takes effect at once with unused time credited; a downgrade waits for the end of the period (Plans & pricing).
  4. To cancel, use Settings > Billing on the web, or the store's subscription settings for a mobile purchase, at least 24 hours before renewal (How do I cancel my paid Claude subscription?). Full steps are on How to Cancel a Claude Subscription.

Payments are generally not refundable except where the Consumer Terms or the law require, and EEA and UK customers can ask for a prorated refund within 14 days.

How Claude's prices compare

At the entry paid tier, Claude Pro ($20) sits level with ChatGPT Plus ($20) and Google AI Pro ($19.99). Google also sells AI Plus at $4.99, and OpenAI sells ChatGPT Go, both cheaper than anything Claude offers; Claude has no plan between Free and $20. At the top, Ultra's $200 matches Google AI Ultra's 20x tier ($199.99) and ChatGPT's Pro 200, while OpenAI also sells a $500 Pro tier. Google's plans bundle cloud storage and other Google services that Claude's do not. Fuller comparisons are on Claude vs ChatGPT and Claude vs Gemini.

What reviewers found

In a Jun 8, 2026 video, The AI Advantage found the price ladders of Claude and ChatGPT alike ($20, $100, $200) but the usage behind them not alike at all, calling Claude "way more restrictive" and giving the pricing round to ChatGPT. The video came before Ultra, when Max sold at $100 and $200.

After a month paying for all three $20 plans, Parker Prompts concluded in an Aug 12, 2026 video that Google AI Pro was the value pick, ChatGPT Plus the predictable one, and Claude Pro "the work pick", worth it despite tighter limits for writing, work on your own files and coding. That verdict is one reviewer's, for the plans as they were in August 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Claude cost per month? Claude is free on the Free plan; Claude Pro is $20 a month ($17 a month billed annually), Max $100, Ultra $200, as of Nov 6, 2026. Team seats start at $20 a month billed annually.

Is Claude Code included in Claude Pro? Yes. Claude Code is included in every paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise) and shares the plan's usage limits; the Free plan does not include it.

Does a Claude subscription include API access? Not Pro: Claude Pro does not include API usage. Max, Ultra and Team include monthly API credits ($100, $200, and up to $500 pooled) that work on the Claude API but not in interactive Claude Code.

Is Claude cheaper with annual billing? Only Claude Pro offers annual billing, at $17 a month ($200 billed up front) instead of $20. Max and Ultra are monthly only; Team and Enterprise can be billed annually.

Does Claude have a student discount? Claude has no individual student plan. Students get Claude through a university's Claude for Education plan, and verified US K-12 teachers get a free year.

Does Claude cost more on iPhone? Possibly. Anthropic states web prices and says Claude mobile pricing "may vary depending on your app platform"; it does not publish the App Store or Google Play prices.
