Claude Ultra
Claude Ultra is Anthropic's $200-a-month plan, the former Max 20x, with no five-hour limit for verified accounts, ten times Claude Pro's weekly usage, Fable included and $200 a month in API credits.
Claude Ultra costs $200 a month and offers "No 5-hour limit" for verified accounts and "10x Pro usage every week", as of Nov 6, 2026, with Fable included up to half the weekly limit and $200 a month in API credits. It is the old Max 20x plan under a new name: "The Max 20x plan is now called the Ultra plan", and existing Max 20x subscribers moved to it automatically with no price change. Anthropic's tagline is "For your longest tasks".

When did Ultra start?
Anthropic has not published a launch post for Ultra that could be found on Nov 6, 2026, and the help center's release notes have no entry for it. The clearest date is an editor's note on an Anthropic article: "References to Max in posts before October 30, 2026 include what are now the Max and Ultra plans". The Oct 7, 2026 release note on API credits still names only Max and Team (Release notes). One Anthropic article dated Aug 7, 2026 names Ultra in its title, which suggests that page was edited after the rename (Auto mode is now the default). So: about Oct 30, 2026, not confirmed by a launch announcement.
No five-hour limit, and what "verified" means
Every other paid plan has a session limit that resets five hours after your first message. Ultra drops it for verified accounts, so you can "work at your own pace within your weekly limit". Anthropic verifies Ultra accounts automatically, "using factors like your account and payment history", to prevent fraud and abuse. Until then an account has a temporary limit, removed automatically once verified; verifying a phone number at checkout is a separate step and does not remove it. To check, open Settings > Usage: if there is no "Current session" bar, the account is verified (What is the Ultra plan?).
The weekly limit still applies, along with a separate weekly limit for Fable. Ultra does not mean unlimited: Anthropic's general terms also reserve the right to adjust limits (How do usage and length limits work?). Past the weekly limit, Ultra can use usage credits at API rates. Claude Code's wrap-up allowance (finishing a step when the five-hour limit hits) does not apply to verified Ultra, since there is no five-hour limit to hit (Use Claude Code with your Pro, Max, or Ultra plan).
Ultra compared with the old Max 20x
The old tier was sold as 20 times Pro's usage at $200 (TechCrunch, Apr 9, 2025). Ultra is described as 10x Pro every week with no five-hour limit. Anthropic has not explained how the two multiples relate, and since it publishes no token or message counts behind either, it is not possible to say from Anthropic's pages whether a former Max 20x subscriber gets more or less in total. What is clear: the price is unchanged, the session cap is gone for verified accounts, and the API credits doubled from Max's $100 to $200.
The $200 in API credits
Ultra's monthly credits work like Max's: they pay for the Claude API, the Console playground, Managed Agents and the Claude Agent SDK when run with an API key from the linked Console organization, and not for interactive Claude Code or extra usage in the apps. They expire each billing cycle (Monthly API credits). At Claude Opus 5.5's price of $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, $200 buys about 10 million output tokens.
Who needs Ultra
Ultra is for people whose work is stopped by the five-hour window rather than by the week: long Claude Code sessions, many parallel agents, or Cowork tasks that run for hours. For most heavy users Claude Max at half the price is enough, and many people never reach Pro's weekly limit. Teams buying for several people should compare Team Premium seats at $100 to $125 a seat. At the same $200 price, rivals sell ChatGPT Pro 200 and Google AI Ultra's 20x tier at $199.99, each with its own image, video and storage extras that Ultra lacks. See Claude Pro vs Max.

What reviewers found
The creator reviews of Claude's plans found on Nov 6, 2026 all predate Ultra. In a Mar 29, 2026 review of the $200 tier Ultra replaced, Kian of The AI Productivity Coach noted that even at $200 there were still limits, "no truly unlimited" Claude plan, only the closest thing to one. Ultra keeps that true, with its weekly limit.
