Claude Pro

3:43 Claude Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month on an annual plan billed $200 up front, as of Nov 6, 2026, and Anthropic says it gives "at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free". It is the cheapest plan with the Opus models, Claude Code, Research, Claude in Chrome, Claude for Microsoft 365 and unlimited Projects. Anthropic's tagline for it is "For everyday work". Heavier users who keep hitting its limits are the audience for Claude Max and Claude Ultra.

What Pro adds over Free

The pricing card lists "Everything in Free, plus": more usage every five hours and every week, Fable paid with usage credits, handing off and scheduling tasks, Claude Dashboards (beta), Claude Code, Claude Science, Projects, more Claude models, and Claude in Chrome and Claude for Microsoft 365 (Plans & pricing). The table adds Research and Opus, neither of which Free has. Pro also unlocks searching your past chats (Memory and chat search) and the option to keep working past a limit with usage credits (Manage usage credits).

How much usage does Pro give?

Anthropic states Pro's usage only as a multiple: at least five times Free's per five-hour session, with a weekly limit across all models on top (Plans & pricing; What is the Pro plan?). It publishes no message count, and how fast a session runs out depends on the model, the effort level, chat length, files and tools (How do usage and length limits work?). Pro is the unit every other plan is measured in: Max is 5x Pro, Ultra 10x Pro a week, and a Team Standard seat 1.25x Pro per session. The details are on Claude Usage Limits.

Claude Code on Pro

Pro includes Claude Code in the terminal, in VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains IDEs, and in the desktop and web apps, all drawing on the same limits as chat (Use Claude Code with your Pro, Max, or Ultra plan). Sign in with your Claude account (/login); an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY set in your environment makes Claude Code bill the API instead. When the five-hour limit hits mid-answer, Claude Code may finish the current step, on Pro "up to once per weekly usage period". Coding sessions use a lot of tokens, so programmers who use Claude Code daily often find Pro too small; that is the case Max was built for. See Claude Code Pricing.

Fable on Pro

Pro can use the Fable models, which Anthropic's docs recommend "for demanding reasoning and long-horizon agentic work", but not from the plan's limits: every Fable message is paid with usage credits at API rates from the first message (Claude Fable models on your plan). On the API, Claude Fable 5.1 costs $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Max and Ultra include Fable up to half the weekly limit instead.

Priority access: a conflict

The Pro help article lists "Priority access to Claude during high-traffic periods" as a Pro benefit, but the pricing page's comparison table says "No" for Pro under priority access and "Yes" for Max and Ultra (What is the Pro plan?; Plans & pricing, both read Nov 6, 2026). The pricing table is the newer, plan-by-plan statement.

How to get Pro

1. On the web, open claude.ai, then Settings > Billing, "Upgrade plan", "Get Pro plan".
2. Choose monthly or annual and select "Subscribe" (How do I sign up for the Pro plan?).
3. On iOS or Android, tap your initials, then "Upgrade to Pro", and pay through the store (iOS).

Web payment takes credit or debit cards only (Paid plan billing FAQs). To move from monthly to annual later: Settings > Billing, "Adjust plan", "Get Pro annual plan"; unused monthly time is credited (How to change your Pro plan from monthly to annual billing). Paid plans need a phone number and a location in a supported country.

Is Claude Pro worth it?

Pro is worth $20 if you use Claude most days for writing, analysis or study, want Opus or Research, or want to try Claude Code. It is not the best buy in three cases. If you only chat now and then, Free may be enough. If you code with Claude Code for hours a day, the weekly limit tends to bind and Claude Max at five times the usage is the usual step. If you mostly want image or video generation, Claude makes neither (Can Claude produce images?), while ChatGPT Plus ($20) and Google AI Pro ($19.99) do, and Google's plan also bundles 5 TB of storage. 5:12 In a Mar 29, 2026 video, Kian of The AI Productivity Coach put Pro at roughly 45 messages every five hours against about 160 every three hours on ChatGPT Plus, and said many Pro users hit their limit within the window. He stressed that the count is rough, because Claude meters tokens, not messages; Anthropic itself gives no number.

19:04 Paul J Lipsky, who paid for the three $20 plans for a Jun 7, 2026 video, found that in the main chat tools "Claude runs out the fastest by far", with Gemini next and ChatGPT last, and that Claude, unlike the other two, does not fall back to a weaker model at the limit. He uses Max himself.
