Claude Design

Claude Design makes designs, interactive prototypes, one-pagers and other visual work from a description, on brand with your design system, and exports them to PowerPoint, PDF or HTML. It works in any Claude conversation and is included on every plan, Free too.

Claude Design is Anthropic's design tool: you describe a visual, and Claude builds a first version, such as a mockup, an interactive prototype, a one-pager or a social asset, that you then refine by comment, direct edits or sliders, and export as PPTX, PDF or HTML (Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026). It launched on Apr 17, 2026 as an Anthropic Labs research preview with its own site, and since Sep 16, 2026 it works inside any Claude conversation, in Claude Code and in the Artifacts tab, on every plan including Free. The standalone site at claude.ai/design closes on Dec 14, 2026. Against Canva or Figma, the fair line is this: Claude Design drafts a whole design from a prompt and your codebase's components, while those are full manual editors with team libraries, version history and years of polish, and Anthropic itself lists missing version history and unreliable multi-person editing among Claude Design's current limits (Get started with Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026).

How Claude Design works

  1. Ask for a visual in any conversation, the Artifacts tab, or with /design in Claude Code.
  2. Claude builds a first version, using your design system if you have one, and checks its own output against it before showing you.
  3. Refine it: comment on any element, edit text directly, use the sliders Claude generates for spacing and color, or drag, resize and align with layout controls.
  4. Share it by link (private by default) or export it.

Inputs can be text, uploaded images, DOCX, PPTX and XLSX files, or a codebase (Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026). At launch Anthropic also offered a web capture tool that grabs elements from a live website (Introducing Claude Design, Apr 17, 2026). The finished work is an artifact and appears in the Artifacts tab.

A toolbar has a Tweaks switch turned on, Comment and Edit buttons. A dark side panel offers Theme (Dark or Light), Breakpoint (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile) and Network settings: arc color, arc width, arc glow, arc density, city size and pulse speed sliders, and checkboxes for Show arcs, Show cities and City labels.

Design systems

A design system tells Claude your colors, type and components. Import one from a GitHub repository, design files, a local codebase or raw uploads, and manage it under Settings > Design Systems; a team can keep several (Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026). Anthropic suggests building React component systems from Claude Code (/design-sync pulls one in) and brand systems with fonts, colors and guidelines from any conversation. Admins can approve one standard system and lock editing.

Teams moving from the standalone site open the Design tab at the bottom of the sidebar and choose "Migrate team design systems". Each migrated system becomes an artifact usable in any conversation, and "Let Claude clean it up" tidies its guide, tokens and components. Chats and project comments from the standalone site do not carry over, and public links to standalone projects stop working when it closes (Live dashboards and animated explainers, Oct 8, 2026).

Exports and integrations

Claude Design exports to PPTX, PDF and HTML and hands a finished design to Claude Code to build (Claude Design). Its listed connectors are Adobe (to Adobe Express), Canva, Gamma, Lovable, Miro, Replit, Vercel and Wix, so a draft can continue in those tools. These are integrations Anthropic and the partners describe; quality of each hand-off is not independently tested. Decks made here now have their own name, Claude Slides, covered with documents on Claude Slides and Docs.

Plans and usage

Claude Design is on every plan, Free included, as of Nov 6, 2026 (Plans and pricing). At its April launch it was a research preview for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise only, running on Claude Opus 4.7 (Introducing Claude Design). On Enterprise it turned on by default on Oct 15, 2026, except for HIPAA-enabled organizations, under Organization settings > Artifacts.

Anthropic's own pages disagree on its status. The release notes of Sep 16, 2026 called Design, Slides and Docs beta on Enterprise, and an Oct 8, 2026 post says all three are out of beta (Live dashboards and animated explainers). The help article on the merged Claude experience still calls them beta and describes them as on paid plans (Claude Cowork and chat are one Claude, read Nov 6, 2026), while the pricing table lists them for Free. The pricing page and the Oct 8 post are the more recent statements of plan.

Design work counts toward your plan's usage limits, and a full design uses more than a typical message. Claude Design once had a separate weekly allowance; that no longer applies (Get started with Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026).

Known limitations

Anthropic's help center lists comments that do not always persist, lag with large codebases, unreliable editing by several people at once, and no version history yet (Get started with Claude Design, read Nov 6, 2026). The iOS and Android apps offer only limited editing and sharing. Claude Tag access to Claude Design is listed as coming soon.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Design free? Yes. Claude Design is included on every Claude plan, including Free, as of Nov 6, 2026, and its use counts toward the plan's normal usage limits.

What can Claude Design make? Claude Design makes designs, interactive prototypes, one-pagers, mockups, social assets and similar visual work from a description, and exports them as PPTX, PDF or HTML.

Is claude.ai/design shutting down? The standalone Claude Design site stays open until Dec 14, 2026; Claude Design itself continues inside every Claude conversation, Claude Code and the Artifacts tab.

Can Claude Design use my brand? Yes. Import a design system from GitHub, design files or a codebase under Settings > Design Systems, and Claude Design builds with your components and checks its output against them.

Is Claude Design a Figma or Canva replacement? Not entirely. Claude Design is fastest at a first draft from a prompt, and it sends work to Canva; Anthropic lists no version history and unreliable multi-person editing as current limits, which dedicated design tools handle.

How do I use Claude Design in Claude Code? Run /design in a Claude Code session to create, edit and sync a design project, and /design-sync to pull in a design system.
