Sharing Chats

To share a Claude chat, click Share at the top right and invite people by email, or on individual plans make a public link. Recipients see a read-only snapshot with its artifacts but not your attached files, and you can update or turn off a share at any time.

To share a Claude chat, open it on the web or desktop, click "Share" at the upper right, enter the email addresses under "People with access" and click "Send"; sharing is on every plan, Free through Enterprise (as of Nov 6, 2026). Sharing with specific people is the default. On individual plans (Free, Pro, Max, Ultra) you can instead make a public link anyone can open; on Team and Enterprise the widest option is everyone in your organization. Either way the recipient gets a read-only snapshot of the chat as it was when you shared it, with its Artifacts, and cannot reply or continue it.

How do I share a Claude chat?

With specific people (any plan):

  1. Open the chat in a browser or the Claude Desktop App.
  2. Click "Share" in the upper right corner.
  3. Under "People with access", enter one or more email addresses.
  4. Click "Send".

Each person gets an email with your name, the chat's title and a link. The link works only for the address you typed: someone who signs in with a different email, for example through Google or Apple, sees "You need access". People without a Claude account can sign up with the invited email filled in; a free account is enough to read the chat (Share a chat with specific people).

With a public link (Free, Pro, Max, Ultra): click "Share" in the chat, then "Share" again in the pop-out to create a link anyone can view (Share and unshare chats). The help center covers these view-only links in a separate article, "Public links for shared chats".

With your organization (Team, Enterprise): in the share dialog, under "General access", choose "Anyone at [your organization]". You can invite only addresses on your organization's domain, and an admin can turn chat sharing off for everyone.

Sharing from the Claude Mobile Apps is not supported yet, though shared chats open on any device.

What can the person I share with see?

They see the chat's messages up to the moment you shared it, any artifacts in it, and your name as the sharer. They do not see (Share a chat with specific people):

  • messages you send after sharing, until you update the share;
  • files you attached, unless you shared inside your organization;
  • the raw data Claude pulled from Connectors or MCP tools, only Claude's answers built from it.

Shared chats are view only: recipients cannot reply, continue the conversation, copy it into their own account, download files or pass access on.

Check a chat before sharing it publicly. Whatever Claude wrote from your connected accounts is in the snapshot: Anthropic warns that if Claude used linked accounts in Personal Finance, figures from them can show in the shared chat, including in charts (Share and unshare chats). Anthropic also turns off public sharing for conversations that contain created files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF files from File Creation) on Free, Pro, Max and Ultra (Create and edit files).

How do I update, unshare or delete a shared chat?

  • Update it: open "Share" and click "Update shared chat". The new snapshot replaces the old one for everyone with access.
  • Remove one person: open "Share", find them under "People with access" and remove them. A pending invite can be removed at any time.
  • Turn it off: click "Turn off" in the share dialog; the link stops working for everyone at once. For a public link, the older steps are to change the visibility dropdown from "Public" to "Private".
  • See everything you shared: go to Settings > Privacy and find "Shared chats", which lists each chat with its date and who has access, with a control to stop each one.
  • Delete the chat: deleting a chat also removes its shared snapshot, and the link stops working.

On Team and Enterprise, admins can also see and revoke members' shared chats and review sharing in the audit log.

Sharing artifacts and projects

An artifact can be shared on its own, apart from the chat. Anthropic says of Claude Design that every artifact gets a link and stays "private by default until you're ready" (Claude Design). Published artifacts on Free, Pro and Max can be embedded in other websites with an embed code, available since Aug 21, 2025.

Projects are shared differently: only on Team and Enterprise, with "Can view" or "Can edit" access for chosen people or the whole organization, and an owner can turn project sharing off (What are projects?). A shared project gives others its knowledge and instructions, while a shared chat gives them one conversation to read.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share a Claude chat link? In Claude on the web or desktop, open the chat, click "Share" at the upper right and invite people by email. On Free, Pro, Max and Ultra plans you can also create a public link that anyone can open.

Can people continue a shared Claude chat? No. A shared Claude chat is a read-only snapshot: recipients cannot reply, continue it, copy it into their account or download its files.

Does a shared Claude chat include my uploaded files? No. Files you attached are not visible in a shared Claude chat unless you shared it within your Team or Enterprise organization. Artifacts in the chat are included.

How do I unshare a Claude chat? Open the chat's "Share" dialog and click "Turn off", or go to Settings > Privacy > Shared chats to stop sharing any chat. Deleting the chat also kills its link.

Can I share a Claude chat from my phone? Not yet. As of Nov 6, 2026, the Claude mobile apps cannot share chats, though anyone can open a shared Claude chat on a phone.

Why can't I make a public link on Claude Team? Claude Team and Enterprise plans have no public links. Chats can be shared only with people in the same organization.
